About CHAS

What is CHAS?

CHAS (Community Health Assist Scheme) is a Singapore government scheme that provides subsidies for medical and dental care at participating GP and dental clinics.

Eligible Singapore Citizens can receive subsidies for a wide range of dental treatments, from basic preventive care like scaling and polishing to more complex procedures like root canal treatment, crowns, and dentures. The subsidy amount depends on your CHAS card type.

Understanding your CHAS card

There are four CHAS card types, each with different eligibility criteria and subsidy amounts.

Pioneer Generation

Highest subsidies. For Singapore Citizens born on or before 31 Dec 1949 who became citizens on or before 31 Dec 1986.

Second highest subsidies. For Singapore Citizens born between 1 Jan 1950 and 31 Dec 1959 who became citizens on or before 31 Dec 1996.

CHAS Blue

For households with monthly income per person of $1,200 or less. Covers all preventive, basic, and restorative dental treatments.

What's new for CHAS dental

Recent enhancements to the CHAS scheme mean more coverage and higher subsidies for dental treatments.

CHAS Orange expanded

CHAS Orange cardholders now receive subsidies for 10 basic and preventive dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, fillings, and extractions. Previously, these subsidies were only available to Blue, Merdeka Generation, and Pioneer Generation cardholders.

Higher subsidy amounts

Increased subsidy amounts for 7 restorative dental procedures across all card types. This includes root canal treatment (anterior, pre-molar, and molar), permanent crowns, and removable dentures (complete, partial simple, and partial complex).

Flexi-MediSave from mid-2026

From mid-2026, seniors aged 60 and above will be able to use Flexi-MediSave to offset up to $400 per year for root canal treatment and crowns at CHAS-accredited dental clinics.

With CHAS Blue, you can receive subsidies of up to $30 for scaling, $30 for simple fillings, $68.50 for posterior extractions, $326 for anterior root canal treatment, $584.50 for molar root canal treatment, $615 for a permanent crown, and $408.50 for a complete removable denture. These are maximum subsidy amounts per claim.

How much can I save with CHAS Orange?

With CHAS Orange, you can receive subsidies of up to $20 for scaling, $20 for simple fillings, $45.50 for posterior extractions, $217.50 for anterior root canal treatment, $389.50 for molar root canal treatment, $410 for a permanent crown, and $272.50 for a complete removable denture. These are maximum subsidy amounts per claim.

What is the difference between CHAS Blue and CHAS Orange?

The main difference is the income eligibility criteria and subsidy amounts. CHAS Blue is for households with monthly income per person of $1,200 or less and provides higher subsidies. CHAS Orange is for households with monthly income per person between $1,201 and $2,000 and provides lower subsidies. Both cards now cover the same range of dental treatments following the October 2025 enhancements.

Can I use CHAS for dental implants?

No, dental implants are not covered under CHAS. However, Medisave can be used for dental implant surgery at Medisave-accredited clinics such as Trust Dental Surgery. Alternative tooth replacement options that are covered by CHAS include removable dentures and permanent crowns.

Can I use CHAS and Medisave together?

Yes, for eligible procedures you can use both CHAS and Medisave. For example, wisdom tooth surgery can be claimed under Medisave, and other treatments at the same visit can use CHAS subsidies. Your dentist and our clinic team can advise you on maximising your benefits across both schemes.

Is Trust Dental Surgery a CHAS accredited clinic?

Yes, Trust Dental Surgery is a CHAS Blue and Orange accredited dental clinic. Both our Jurong West and Clementi clinics accept all CHAS card types including Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, CHAS Blue, and CHAS Orange. We also accept Medisave for eligible dental surgical procedures.

What do I need to bring to use my CHAS card?

To use your CHAS card at Trust Dental Surgery, please bring your CHAS card and your NRIC (identity card). Inform our reception team at the start of your visit so that the subsidy can be applied directly to your bill. You only pay the remaining balance after the subsidy is deducted.
